Despite my best efforts at moving as far south as possible, we got down in the freezing temperatures this week here in Georgia! I’m never one to celebrate chilly winter weather (I’m a sunshine and palm trees kind of girl!) but I do love enjoying some bonfires and a nice steaming mug of hot chocolate when the temperatures drop, which is exactly what we did this past weekend.

I whipped up a batch of this creamy Nutella Hot Chocolate for myself and my three boys the other day and it got rave reviews (much like my peanut butter hot chocolate I shared with you last winter.)

Why I love this recipe

This has to be the best hot chocolate recipe because it has only three ingredients and you can have it ready in just ten minutes. You probably have everything you need in your pantry already, so go ahead and make a batch, you’ll thank me after the first taste!

Ingredients

  • milk (the kind of milk will affect the creaminess, whole milk will be the most creamy while lower fat milks will not be as thick)
  • milk chocolate morsels
  • Nutella hazelnut spread

Step by step

This is super easy to make, consider it a no fail recipe!

  1. Heat all ingredients in a small sauce pan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk as the mixture warms to stir it together as chocolate melts.
  3. Serve with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired.

Variations

  • use a dairy-free milk like cashew milk, almond milk, oat milk, or soy milk
  • make a grown up version by adding alcohol like hazelnut liqueur or a splash of bourbon
  • cook on low in the crock pot instead of on the stovetop like this slow cooker hot chocolate recipe
  • add a half teaspoon of vanilla extract to amp up the flavor

Serving suggestions

Serve it with whipped cream and chocolate chips or chocolate shavings like I did or top with marshmallows (or better yet, add all of the above!!) You can also drizzle the top with chocolate syrup.
