I’m a carb girl. If it’s bread or pasta, I’m all in! One of my weaknesses is a thick, buttery piece of homemade Texas Toast…I usually make it any time we have spaghetti or chili for dinner. I used to buy the frozen store versions but once I learned just how easy it is to make homemade Texas Toast I never went back! It’s a money saver to make it yourself too and it only takes a few minutes! Without further ado, my favorite Homemade Texas Toast recipe.
Homemade Texas Toast
Ingredients
- 2 sticks of butter or margarine
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 loaf bakery white bread

I start with a fresh loaf of white bread from the bakery at my grocery store-it’s priced usually about $1.50 so not only is this route tastier, it saves me money on my grocery budget as well. You can also make it with Italian or submarine bread as well, I prefer the bread to be as fresh as possible for the best results.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cut the bread into 1″ slices.
In a small bowl, microwave butter for one minute or until fully melted. Add garlic powder, salt, and oregano to the melted butter. Brush the butter mixture onto both sides of bread with a pastry brush and place on baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
My husband and boys can finish off an entire loaf in five minutes flat, it’s so yummy!
Are you a carb addict like I am-I swear I could eat nothing but bread all day and be perfectly content (although my pants probably wouldn’t fit for long!)

I used this recipe for my house full of boys that are picky eaters. I used the artesano bread by Saralee and when you flip halfway through I put shredded Colby jack and monteray cheese on it. I should have made a double batch because it was a total hit! Thanks for posting the recipe!
