Ingredients

  • Rice Krispies
  • marshmallows
  • butter
  • vanilla extract
  • salt

Step by step

  1. Melt the butter and marshmallows over low heat, stirring often.
  2. Once fully melted remove from heat and add the vanilla and salt.
  3. Stir in Rice Krispies 2 cups at a time until all are added.
  4. Pour mixture into a baking dish, pressing firmly with a rubber spatula.
  5. Allow the Rice Krispie treats to cool completely and harden before slicing and serving.

Tips for best results

  • The secret ingredients are the vanilla extract and salt, don’t skip these!
  • Use real vanilla extract, not imitation! This special addition brings so much homemade flavor to the Rice Krispie Treats.
  • Choose fresh, soft marshmallows rather than hard, stale ones.
  • Heat the butter and marshmallows on low heat. Heating too hot will result in hard Rice Krispie Treats.
  • Store in an airtight container up to three days.

Can I freeze Rice Krispie treats?

I do not recommend freezing these Rice Krispies, they don’t have the same texture afterward. They are so easy to make it’s best to cook up a fresh batch when you’re craving them!

    1. Hi Tammy-the salt and vanilla extract are the “secret” ingredients usually not included in other Rice Krispie treat recipes I’ve seen. In my opinion, they really improve the flavor! ~Melissa

  1. I love Rice Krispie treats but my kids are grown so I don’t make them anymore. I needed to make a quick treat for a group of 7-year olds at church and found your recipe on pintrest. I have to say your title is correct. They are “perfect!” They were moist, chewy and delicious! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I will be making these again for just me and my husband!
