We are about to transition my oldest son (who is 4) from his toddler bed to a twin bed. I’ve been holding off until my husband is home so he can be a part of the process of getting the “big boy bed,” as this is going to be a very BIG deal around here. A few weeks ago I got a cute twin bed set from Target with a rocket/outer space theme to it, my son’s current obsession. Today, while wasting time surfing the net, I saw this painting at Land of Nod for a cool $129.
Being a painter myself, and being that I happen to have no plans this morning and a large empty canvas sitting next to my easel, I decided to paint one myself.
I used a cheap canvas from AC Moore I had picked up on sale last week, some cheap-o acrylic paints from Walmart I had buried in a drawer, and of course paint brushes. (I usually paint in oils but for this painting I needed something that would dry very fast rather than having to wait days for colors to dry like my “art” paintings.) I also used a little acrylic painters medium to thin the paints in parts of the background and to do the lettering.
I’m pretty pleased with the way it turned out overall. Because I used such poor quality paints there are a few things that bother me-I had the hardest time with the yellow paint, it was not very opaque. But other than that I think it looks good, and my son is pretty excited to hang it in his room so I’d say it was an hour and a half well-spent!
