The master bathroom is one area of the house that tends to get neglected when it comes to style. Maybe it’s because your guests don’t generally see that area or because of it’s utilitarian function…whatever the reason I say no more! Keeping your bathroom looking like a stylish retreat should be a priority-it’s your place. Just for you. Make it beautiful with these easy tips.
Clear the Clutter
I am the first person to admit that I tend to have, um, hoarding tendencies. I also love to “see” everything I have so keeping my bathroom tidy and organized is a major struggle for me. But let’s be honest here, how much better does your bathroom look when it’s organized? Keeping your bathroom uncluttered goes a long way to making it the spa-like retreat we all dream of. So how do you do it?
The first thing I recommend is clear an hour of your time and purge. Pull out everything you have-check expiration dates, ask yourself honestly if you plan on using those forty bottles of scented lotions, the hotel travel bottles we all hoard. I know I recently got rid of about 15 bottles of super scented lotions my husband has given me over the years because I know I’m not going to use them due to sensitivities-it was sweet for him to gift them to me over the past few years but if I know I’m not going to use them, they need to go.
Once you have pared down what you need get it together-I use dollar store baskets to contain my under sink items in categories-one basket has my hair dryer, curling irons, brushes and hairspray. Another contains my mani/pedi supplies, etc. If you have items you use rarely try to delegate them to another area-say the top shelf of the closet or a linen closet.
Once you have everything organized, turn to your vanity. I try to keep my vanity as clear as possible. With the exception of perfumes/colognes, handsoap, flowers, and these cutey-patooty chevron Listerine bottle I found at Target, the counters are clean. These are the “maintenence” items I use multiple times a day-clean hands, sweet scent, and great breath are a must before I leave the house!! I swooned by the way when I found the chevron Listerine bottles-check out the four color varieties they’re offering, I, of course, had to go for the coral version since that’s my favorite color!
Fresh Flowers and Greenery
I’m pretty hard-core when it comes to keeping fresh flowers and greenery in my home and the bathroom is no exception. These gladiolas came home with me last week and I love the coral color-and they last forever…am I the only one that think gladiolas look just as beautiful as they die as they do first arranged?? The greenery by the bathtub was actually filler from a recent bouquet of roses I bought. I loved the graphic shape of the leaves and knew they needed to shine on their own!
Don’t’ forget to use accents to decorate your bathroom-especially if you have a garden tub. I like to use lots of candles, and some cherished photos. I keep my bath salts and scrubs in inexpensive glass lidded jars to have on hand while still looking stylish. My bath tray was a recent gift from my husband who was sweet enough to stalk my Etsy favorite list and buy it for me for Mother’s Day-it’s made from tobacco drying wood and has such a gorgeous color. Be sure to keep reading material at hand also for those relaxing tub soaks!
How do you decorate and keep your bathroom looking like a retreat? What do you leave out on your bathroom vanity?
