Today marks the first sneak peek of my Christmas tree!! I’m too in love with it to not share, best of all it was cheapity-cheap-cheap to decorate! I’ll be featuring tutorials for all of the DIY ornaments on the tree and the total cost breakdown over the next week. The first ornaments I wanted to share are these gorgeous glittered dollar store ornaments!
Here are what the ornaments looked like when I spotted them at my local Dollar Tree. The big ones were in packs of two for a dollar and the little ones were 10 for a dollar. Not bad right? I bought 4 sets of large and 5 sets of small…my tree is set up in a corner so I only decorated three quarters of it and this was enough for me.
I covered my work area with newspaper and sprayed each ornament with spray adhesive-this stuff is super duper tacky so make sure to protect your area! After spraying the ornament I laid it in a large plate of glitter.
I tried a few types of glitter and my favorite was the mixed kind with large and small bits in it. For the larger ornaments I found pouring the glitter over the ornament to be the best method since they had a little more dimension to them…I used two plates and poured the glitter over the ornament on one plate, then transferred it to the empty plate and repeated the process until it was well covered. And yes, I was covered in glitter for a few days-small price to pay!
Here you can see the before and after of one of the large ornaments-isn’t it pretty? I loved the shape of the original ornaments but they look like a million bucks with all that bling!
These inexpensive ornaments are the foundation for the tree…I love that there are multiple different sizes and shapes but they are all unified by the glitter…the big ornaments are my favorite-they really stand out when looking at the tree as a whole.
I can’t wait to share the rest of the ornament tutorials with you, they are all so simple but work well together! And of course, if you know me and my decorating style you know I’m loving this neutral tree decor too!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow to all of my American readers, I’ll be cooking away but I’m sure I’ll check in on Instagram so hop over there and follow me so we can connect!
