I LOVE wrapping gifts-anybody else? There’s something about it that’s relaxing to me. I look forward to it every Christmas! Today I wanted to share some of my very favorite gift wrapping tips and tricks-starting with how to keep it all organized!
I love buying beautiful wrapping paper and ribbon for my gift wrapping-but when you’re spending a little more for supplies you need to make sure you’re keeping them organized so they don’t get crumpled or lost. I found the best way for me to be a hanging gift wrap organizer. I keep it tucked away in a closet and it keeps everything I need in one place.
My organizer has sections for wrapping paper rolls, then compartments for everything else you need. I keep lots of ribbon in here-satin ribbon in Christmas colors, wired metallic ribbon, wide burlap ribbon. There’s also room for tags-I use both the traditional sticker Christmas tags but also keep die cut kraft paper tags too for when I’m feeling “fancy” when wrapping!
I always keep scissors and plenty of tape in the organizer too-I hate running out of tape or hunting for scissors when I’m wrapping-it’s so much easier and faster to have a dedicated supply at all times in the organizer.
As an aside-is anyone else an office supply hoarder? When we moved to DC in May I was ecstatic that we’re around the corner from an Office Depot (we didn’t have one in our town in NC.) Maybe it’s a homeschooling thing but I’m always in there buying tape and paper and markers and pens and…well, you get it! I have to buy tape in bulk because for some reason my three boys LOVE taping their drawings and creations all over our homeschool classroom!
Okay, back to the wrapping…on the back of the organizer are pockets for keeping gift bags, boxes, and tissue paper.
When I’m ready to wrap I simply bring my organizer out of the closet and get set up at a table that gives me enough room or sometimes I like to spread out on the wood floor next to the Christmas tree-gotta love that ambiance for inspiration!
I like to play with which ribbons look best with which papers and I always try to add a little something unexpected-this year I’m adding jingle bells to my gifts! (Please don’t tell my husband-we have to drive 8 hours with a box full of gifts to carry to family in a couple of weeks and I just know the jingle bells are going to drive him crazy!)
After tightly wrapping up my present I wrap it in ribbon. If you’ve never done that I really think you should try! It’s easy and gives a nice high end look. Start your ribbon across the gift on the front.
Cross over the back and twist so you are now wrapping perpendicular to the beginning portion.
When you get back on the front tie the ribbon once, then I like to loop one end under the lower ribbon and tie it again to secure the bow in place.
Tie the bow-if you have trouble getting your bow to look pretty simple adjust it by loosening and pulling the ends tighter to get a more compact bow-I usually have to adjust it a few times until I get it looking the way I want it. Trim the ends.
To attach my jingle bells I simply loop them on some twine and tie underneath the bow then trim the ends.
For this gift I added a kraft tag by taping it tucked slightly under the bow, then I use a permanent marker to label the gift (I didn’t show that because I didn’t want the recipient to know in case they see this post!)
That’s it! Pretty right? I promise it doesn’t take a ton of time to wrap this way, and it takes something that can be thought of as a chore and makes it a lot more fun!
