It’s that time of year again-cold and flu season. I don’t know about you but our family has already had our fair share of bugs this year-strep, scarlet fever, and the perpetual runny noses are abound in the house! In the spirit of spreading the love when those around us are under the weather I came up with this cute little honey and lemon themed get well gift basket comlete with Bigelow tea!
It all started with a shopping trip to Walmart… I picked up some honey lemon Halls cough drops (my favorites) and then mosied on down to the tea aisle to find something lemony to go along with it. I bought two boxes of Bigelow Tea to go in my basket as well-it’s my favorite, I started drinking it as a little girl, I love their flavors! The first box I found was Lemon Ginger-with added Probiotics to help digestion-everytime someone in our house is sick enough for antibiotics I always try to add extra probiotics to our diets to help avoid tummy troubles! I also found a variety pack that had another Lemon tea but this one with added Vitamin C-perfect for colds!
To make my gift basket I put in my cough drops and teas as well as some local honey that I picked up at the Farmer’s Market…my boys and husband have allergies so we always stay stocked up on local honey to add to our foods and help them adjust as we move from place to place with the Army.
Of course, lemons had to be included to go with the tea (I adore lemon in my tea-do you?)
And lastly, what’s a gift basket without a sweet treat to cheer up the recipient? I whipped up some Lemon Cupcakes with Honey Cream Cheese Frosting!
First of all, let me tell you this was no Food Network Recipe, this was good old fashioned “semi-homemade” style! I used a box lemon cake mix and topped it with this delicious honey lemon frosting! (Hey I won’t tell if you don’t tell!)Print
Honey Cream Cheese Frosting
Easy and delicious honey flavored cream cheese frosting.

- 4 ounces unsalted butter, softened
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Mix butter and cream cheese with a stand mixer. Keeping the mixer on low speed, add the powdered sugar a cup at a time until smooth and creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract and honey until blended.
To garnish the cupcakes simply add a little lemon zest to the frosting…I promise you’ll love them!!
