Growing up I wasn’t a huge fan of eating meat. I wasn’t a strict vegetarian but I didn’t much care for it and rarely ate it. Then, when I was in college studying Animal Science I had the unfortunate assignment one semester to care for a heifer as part of a husbandry class I took. (A heifer is a young cow that hasn’t had any calves in case you were wondering!)
Now, I’ve made no secret about my lack of outdoorsy-ness. I’m a prissy person and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Getting up at 5am every morning (how cruel is that to a college student!) to dodge being kicked by an ornery bovine while cleaning out her stall was NOT my cup of tea. It was during this period of my life that I started to eat meat routinely for the first time. I don’t know if it was just getting older or the intense resentment I found for cattle during that time but I began that semester a love affair with burgers that has lasted to this day!
My husband has always been a “meat and potatoes” type of guy and fully supports my love for a good burger. We love grillling out on the weekends and experimenting with new burger recipes. The Avocado Ranch Sausage Burger I’m sharing today is my new favorite and I think if you give it a try you might just fall in love with it too!
- 1.5 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb spicy ground sausage
- whole grain hamburger buns
- sliced havarti cheese
- Hidden Valley® Avocado Ranch Dressing
In a small bowl combine the ground beef and sausage, mixing thoroughly. Form into 8 patties. Grill on a preheated over medium high heat to desired temperature/doneness. Serve on warm buns with havarti cheese, spinach, and Hidden Valley® Avocado Ranch Dressing.
I’m an avocado devotee so when I saw “Avocado Ranch” screaming out at me on the grocery store shelf I had to give it a try. Hidden Valley® actually has a few brand new flavors they have just released: Avocado Ranch, Cucumber Ranch (available in Light too!), Sweet Chili Ranch, and Roasted Garlic Ranch.
As someone who eats at least one salad a day I love trying a variety of salad dressings to keep things interesting-but I also am a big fan of using salad dressings for decidedly non-salady things as well! The Avocado Ranch was the perfect topping for this spicy burger and also served well for dipping the spicy sweet potato fries I served up on the side!
Have you tried any of the new Hidden Valley® Ranch flavors? Which one do you think you’d like the best? Are you a fan of using salad dressing for recipes other than salads too?
