We are HUGE mac and cheese fans in our house and I love making it from scratch. Not only does it not contain all sorts of unnecessary ingredients that way, it just tastes way better.

This Bacon Mac and Cheese is even more amazing because I’ve loaded it with heaps of bacon and we make it easy by prepping it in the slow cooker.

slow cooker mac and cheese ingredients

Ingredients

Just a few basic ingredients blend together for this amazing comfort food recipe:

  • elbow noodles
  • shredded mild cheddar and mozzarella cheeses
  • condensed cheddar soup
  • bacon
  • milk
  • salt & pepper
  • garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Start by boiling the noodles and cooking the bacon; I do both at the same time. I’ve tried adding the noodles uncooked in the past but found that it’s hard to get them perfect that way. By pre-boiling the noodles, we get the perfect texture every time.
  2. While the noodles are boiling, cook the bacon until crisp and then dice it up on a cutting board.
  1. Add the cooked noodles, bacon, cheeses, and remaining ingredients to the slow cooker.
  2. Stir to blend thoroughly.
  3. Cover and set the temperature to high for the first hour then low for the next hour. WWhen ready to eat, stir up that bacon mac and cheese perfection!!

Is your mouth watering yet? I can’t begin to tell you how fast this gets gobbled up at my house every time I make it!

Variations and tips

  • If you want to leave the slow cooker on one setting the entire time, cook on low for 3 hours, cooking on high longer than an hour will cause the sides to crisp
  • If you prefer your bacon crisp wait until serving to stir in the crumbles
  • Sauté chopped jalapeño in the bacon fat for a few minutes and add into the mac before cooking to add a little spice
  • Top with crumbled Ritz cracker crumbs before serving

  1. Oh my sons favorite food. I detest it but he loves it. And never had bacon in it but the slow cooker is my favorite mode of cooking. So we give food for Christmas and this will be his.
    Thank you.
