Description

This moist, delicious Banana Cake is packed with flavor and filled with delicious chocolate chips. It’s soft, moist, and rich and sure to be a hit whenever you make it!


Ingredients

For the Chocolate Chip Banana Cake

  • 2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips

For the Chocolate Frosting

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 34 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 46 tablespoons whipping cream

Instructions

For the Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl beat together the butter and sugars until fluffy. Add in the eggs and vanilla and continue beating
  4. Turn off the mixer and scrape down the sides of the bowl. Then beat in the mashed bananas followed by the sour cream.
  5. With the mixer on low beat in the flour mixture, followed by the buttermilk. Stir in the mini chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool before frosting.

Make the Chocolate Frosting

  1. In a large bowl using an electric mixer, beat the butter until fluffy.
  2. Sift together the cocoa powder with 3 cups of powdered sugar and the salt, then carefully beat it into the butter.
  3. Then beat in the whipping cream 1 tablespoon at a time until you get the desired consistency and sweetness level, adding the rest of the powdered sugar as needed.
  4. Frost the cooled cake and serve.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
