Entertaining is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season! Gathering with family and friends and celebrating all the joys of this time of year-it doesn’t get better! To keep holiday entertaining stress free and easy on the pocketbook, try these 5 easy tips.
1. Think outside of the box for decorations.
Easy decor is a close as your local grocery or farmer’s market! Think of filling hurricanes with dried split peas, cranberries, or adding sprigs of rosemary to your table’s place settings.
2. Plan and prepare your menu ahead of time.
Nobody wants to be slaving away in the kitchen while your guests are mingling so pick dishes that can be prepared ahead of time and popped in the oven the day of the party. Don’t try new recipes out on special occasion-think tried and true!
3. Add some easy ambiance.
Scented candles are an easy way to add not only mood lighting to your party but also scent your home with the smells of the season. My favorite scent right now is the Limited Edition Holiday Sweet Treat™ from Glade®-it smells like cocoa, toasted nuts and creamy caramel. (Incidentally, my husband constantly makes fun of me because I LOVE candles that smell like food-am I the only one??)
Glade® also has some other wonderful seasonal scents like Apple Cinnamon Cheer™ , Sparkling Spruce™, Pure Vanilla Joy, and Frosted Berry Kiss. Yum!
Don’t forget to make a holiday playlist in advance and set it on repeat play so you don’t have to take time to DJ during the evening as well!
4. Set up a drink station.
Make things easy for not only yourself but your guests by setting up a drink station where guests can help themselves. This frees you for other party tasks and mingling-which is the whole point right!?
5. Prepare for messes.
It invariably happens-red wine on your sofa, a plate that gets dropped. Prepare for party messes ahead of time by having cleaning supplies in a handy area and consider buying specialty cleaners like Wine Away if you are serving highly staining things like red wine or red sauces…I stocked up before my last wine tasting party and was so glad I did!
Most importantly-be sure to enjoy yourself! The holidays help us to realize how important our friends and family are-there’s no need to stress over making things perfect-keep the focus on enjoying the company of your guests and everyone will have a great time!
