Tips for best results

  • Save a bit of chopped bacon and green onion to garnish the top for serving
  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best results
  • If you don’t like sourdough bread you can use an Italian loaf, just make sure whatever you choose is hard and crusty on the outside
  • Use care when scooping out the interior of the loaf, don’t make the sides too thin so they can support the dip inside
  • To omit the bread, bake the dip in a 9 by 9 inch casserole dish for 40 minutes or until bubbly

  1. Something is wrong with this recipe. If you bake this in the loaf of hollowed out bread for 1 hour at 400 you will have a big black ball of ash.

    1. That’s how long it took in my oven to begin to bubble Eileen-we’ve since moved so I can’t test the oven temperature right now but I never had problems with recipes there. I did have “or until golden and bubbly” because I’ve found that there can be a big difference in oven temperatures so I always find it’s best to keep an eye on these things anyways! I’d love to hear how long it takes yours to finish cooking if you try the recipe! ~Melissa
