I’m a worrier by nature-I can give you about ten worst case scenarios for about every situation I encounter. It’s just how my brain works. So when the Army throws a person like me into an international move with three kids under 10 (and a cat) it’s no wonder that stress levels at my house are through the roof. Despite having moved over 20 times in my life dealing with moving stress is always a challenge…here’s how we are coping at our house right now (be sure to read to the bottom for an awesome giveaway too!)
One of the hardest parts of moving, especially for our current move overseas, are the endless to do lists and tasks associated with the move always floating around in my head. To combat the constant dialogue of worry I created a Google doc I can access on my computer or phone and made categorized lists where I can type out anything that comes to mind that I might need to address. I can easily keep track of the things I need to do and knowing they are written on my list helps me to stop overthinking things.
Another way to reduce moving stress is to take breaks from the moving chaos and get outside. This is a huge one for not just myself but for the entire family-even taking thirty minutes to walk to a nearby creek and relax outside can lift all of our moods. I like to pack my favorite snack-Orchard Valley Harvest Chocolate Raisin Nut Trail Mix (the Grab & Go sizes and Multi Packs make it easy for me to carry) and just disconnect from the hustle and bustle, relax by the creek and focus on the small things like the sound of the water or sun peeking through the trees.
Speaking of snacks, another reason I’m loving the Orchard Valley Harvest snacks right now is that they are saving me big time when it comes to making good decisions while we’re out and about. I picked some up in the produce section of my Walmart and keep a bag or two in my purse all the time. Just this past weekend we took our kids to the National Zoo one last time before the move and rather than grab a hot dog or chips when I got hungry I was able to snack on some Chocolate Almonds instead-definitely a better choice both for my body and my wallet (hot dogs were a whopping $10 a piece at the zoo!)
Another thing that’s been helping us all deal with the moving stress is to focus forward, thinking beyond the next month of turmoil and instead thinking about places we’ll visit and how great our new home will be. We know we’ll be living on a cul-de-sac with a large yard and a playground in front of the house, it will be a breath of fresh air compared to the past few years of city townhouse life. We’ll be walking primarily instead of driving and looking forward to a lot of outdoors time! I can’t wait to share our new home with you all once we’re there!
