These days with three kids under 10 we don’t go out on New Year’s Eve but I still like to enjoy my midnight toast with my main squeeze, even if it’s on the couch! This year I’ll be celebrating with this delicious Limoncello Prosecco Cocktail, sometimes also called Sorrento Sparklers!

Prosecco vs champagne

For those that aren’t familiar, both Limoncello and Prosecco are Italian in origin.  Prosecco is a sparkling white wine very similar to Champagne but less expensive and I find it a little more fruity-it’s delicious if you’re a fan of sparkling wines!

How to drink limoncello

Limoncello is an Italian lemon flavored liqueur (I have a recipe to make your own limoncello here) that is traditionally served ice cold after dinner.  Although it is normally served in small glasses, it is meant to be sipped not drank all at once like a shot.

You can also use limoncello to mix for cocktails, like this one!

How to pick a prosecco

  • Choose a mid-level cost prosecco. Because we are mixing it you don’t want to go high-end but we still want a quality wine that won’t leave you with a headache the following day. La Marca is one of my favorite brands.
  • Be sure the prosecco is served extremely cold so it doesn’t warm the limoncello.

Back to the cocktail….this is a super simple 2 ingredient recipe!

Simply pour one shot of Limoncello into the bottom of a Champagne flute and top off with Prosecco, garnish with lemon rind or mint if you care to fancy it up! It doesn’t get much more simple and is a fun delicious twist on standard sparkly!

How will you be celebrating New Year’s Eve this year? Do you ring in the New Year with a toast?
