As a #12MonthsOfMartha blogger I get to share a fun tutorial for you guys every month using Martha Stewart Crafts supplies (I know, I know…it’s a very difficult job to stomach!) If you love Martha Stewart you know that Halloween is one of her favorite holidays so it wasn’t a huge surprise (but still a big honor) when I was asked to decorate a funkin (foam pumpkin) to share with MarthaStewart.com. I mulled over what to do with my funkin for days and in the end I thought I’d love to make a painted pumpkin instead of carving it. My inspiration were the bat stencils from this and this Martha Stewart Crafts. I love how it turned out and it’s a pumpkin (funkin!) that kids and adults will both love!
Can I just say that these adhesive stencils are amazing for uneven surfaces! I had to trace my other standard stencils onto the funkin and then paint them by hand but the adhesive stencils stuck right on and came out perfectly!!!
I used Martha Stewart Multi-Surface Craft Paint in Onyx to paint on both the bats and “boo” I hand-lettered. I did mine freehand but you could easily print out a stencil in your favorite font to trace!
While I was making the pumpkin my boys were putting together these adorable little spiders. Aren’t they precious??
Have you decorated a funkin before? Did you carve it or do something else? I’d love to hear how you use them!
