Our homeschool/multipurpose room was looking a bit worse for the wear lately. It was lacking organization and I really wanted to create a special area for my boys to read-I’ve been struggling to encourage them to read for pleasure and I thought a dedicated reading area could help my mission. When I was given the opportunity to spruce up the area with some personalized Shutterfly products I jumped at the chance and I think you’re going to love our kid-friendly, colorful reading nook just as much as we do!
You might not think about home decor when you think of Shutterfly but seriously-you need to go see the amazing selection of fun décor they have…what I love about it all is how you can personalize it but not only with pictures-you can also design your own text too which really expands the possibilities of what you can design!
The first thing I made were these cute pillows for our loveseat. I left one pillow blank because…hello! Polka Dots! The navy and green dots were my inspiration actually for all of this little area. The other pillow I used a navy stripe and wrote out “Read Write Dream” in some fun colors. I want this to encourage my boys to do just that-read to learn, write their own ideas and stories out, and dream of the future and all they can accomplish!
Above the couch is a canvas print that I designed for free in PicMonkey and uploaded to Shutterfly-it has this amazing quote from Theodore Roosevelt that was so inspiring to me as a mom raising young men! The canvas turned out beautifully and I love that we can read these inspiring words every day now!
On the side table I placed a personalized frame with a fun little picture I took of the boys reading, again in a lovely little navy stripe! I also made a little boredom buster from a Shutterfly photo cube! If the boys tell me they’re bored they can “roll the dice” to figure out something fun to do! (The bottom of the cube is open so if they roll that side we say it’s open play!)
Below the table is our basket of books…I put a smaller basket inside the larger one to hold the tiny little intro readers for my youngest sons.
And just to top off the area I customized this cozy blanket with the words “Snuggle Time” because it’s one of my favorite things to do with my boys-snuggle up with a book and read together!
I’m so excited by how our little reading nook looks all freshened up and how easy it was to design the decor accessories just the way I wanted to make the space perfect for us!
