diy feather and wheat wreath

Make an easy DIY wheat wreath and complete it with accent pheasant feathers for an easy craft to welcome fall to your home.

So funny story about this wreath.  I had it all made and ready to post last week when my good buddy Ann over at On Sutton Place posted her gorgeous version.  Hers went live seriously right before I posted an identical wreath-right down to the burlap bow! (You know what they say about great minds thinking alike!)

I scrambled to find another post for the day I had the wreath scheduled for and wracked my brain for how to adapt my wreath into something different but something I’d still love every bit as much! So off went the burlap bow and in came some pheasant feathers I found at the craft store while searching for supplies for another project and I love it!

Supplies:

  • straw wreath form (do not remove wrapping unless you want to be vacuuming straw for the rest of the year.)
  • 2 one pound bundles wheat
  • U shaped florist pins
  • pheasant feathers-mine were in bundles of 3 in the floral section of the craft store

Make your wreath by attaching small bundles of the wheat to the straw wreath form using the floral pins.  Continue working around the wreath allowing each bundle to overlap the bottom of the previous bundles.

After all the wheat is attached to the wreath simply poke your pheasant feathers in one side.  {Can I tell you that I’m slightly obsessed with pheasant feathers? I won’t bore you with how I spent literally hours one night looking at them online!}

I love the simplicity of this wreath, it looks so pretty on my front porch (which will be getting it’s own fall makeover this weekend!)

  1. I love this SO much! I’m not really a wreath kind of gal, but I would totally rock this one. Sharing!

    1. Thanks so much Katie-I’m in love with anything with pheasant feathers! Hope you’re having a great weekend! ~Melissa

  2. Love both your’s and Ann’s version of the wreath. Love the look of wheat but the last time I tried to work with it got stung by the thorns a few times. Oh, I need to get my Fall decor out. There has been so much going around lately. I have a nagging thought that it needs something at the bottom of the feathers, like a small fake pumpkin or 2.
