I may be a mom to 3 little boys but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming up little girl crafts for all of my friends with daughters! A few weeks ago I made these cutey-patootey DIY felt bow barrettes for a friend and they were so fast and easy I knew I had to share them with you!
Hot Glue Gun & Glue
You can experiment with size making these but I’ll give you the rough measurements I used for a medium sized bow. Please don’t worry about perfection when making these-I promise they are very forgiving and after you make the first one you’ll be whipping them out by the dozen!
Cut a 1″ by 6″ rectangle, a 1/4″ by 1″ rectangle, and two 1″ by 2″ rectangles of felt. Begin by folding your largest rectangle in half, then fold the ends back towards the fold as shown below. Your felt will be in a “M” shape. Cut the shape of half your bow making the two folded ends wider than the other side as shown.
Unfold the rectangle and hot glue the ends to the middle to form the two sides of your bow. Use the smallest rectangle to glue over the center, securing on the back. Trim the two rectangles you have left to form the ends of your “ribbon” and glue to the back of the bow. Glue to the top of a plain barrette and you’re all done!
These take all of 5 minutes to make and use such a little amount of felt, it’s great for scraps!
Any other boy-moms out there always looking for an excuse to make girly crafts?
