Sometimes in the blogging world it can seem like other people are doing the impossible….making over entire houses in a weekend while homeschooling ten kids, cooking only gluten free vegan gourmet meals and looking perfectly stylish and hip at the same time.
Yeah, not this lady.
I try to plan my projects ahead of time and I love sharing the big “reveal” posts but honestly, sometimes my dreams are far, far bigger than my budget or my time. And sometimes the kids get sick, or my husband goes out in the field to train, or my family just needs me and I need to slow it down.
Cause I’m just a mom,
with three little boys,
and an amazing hardworking husband,
and a blog that I love.
So today there’s no pretty craft, no tasty recipe, no big room makeovers. Just what I’m working on.
My biggest project right now is the dining room soon to be library. Here it is the last time I showed it to you:
We honestly never use this room. We have a nice sized eat in area in the kitchen with a great table that works perfectly for us so this room is pretty obsolete. Since I created my feminine office/craft room a few months ago, I want to turn the dining room into a more masculine space for my husband.
A place with that big leather chair he’s been dreaming of.
And a bar for entertaining.
With a kegerator.
Yeah, that’s right…a kegerator.
Not sure how I’m going to DIY that one pretty but it’s what he wants and I’ll figure out how to make it work!
So far I’ve managed to remove the dining set and paint the area above the chair rail with Benjamin Moore Shaker Grey and below the chair rail gloss white.
The server will be transforming to a bar area. I plan on DIYing a framed mirror with a shelf above the server for glass storage.
I want a large modern area rug, probably in a gold/yellow tone. Then of course his leather chair, some complimentary seating and some industrial/midcentury accents. This is the little inspiration board I whipped up:
And since I plan on calling this a library, I’m planning on building a large bookcase for the blank wall on the left. I debated making it a built in but because we are military and may try to rent out the house in a few years if we have to move I don’t want to make any permanent changes to the space (like chopping off the chair rail to make a built in bookshelf!)
So that’s the plan as it stands now, it’s evolving every day. The chair and the rug are the budget busters here. I think I’ve found a few good chair options but we put in some French Drains in the back yard to help with standing water and that pretty much ate up the house budget this month so it may be a few weeks. I’m in love with this rug from West Elm but again, trying to be fiscally wise and save up for it! Patience my friends!
In the meantime I’m turning my thoughts to some gardening and outdoor projects and of course now that we have our new media stand I can get to decorating my mantle! I’m also rearranging my gallery wall in the living area and updating some other small decor elements. I asked you all on my Facebook page where to find good inexpensive frames and you gave me wonderful suggestions so I’m on that mission this week too!
What are you working on around the house right now? Are you a whirlwind makeover master or do you take your time making decor changes?
