As most of you know I have three little boys and my older two are four and five years old…prime superhero phase. When I heard that I could have the chance to watch The Amazing Spiderman before the official release date on November 9th, I had to jump at the chance!
Have you heard of Vudu? Apparently I live under a rock (or three kids) and have totally missed this! You can actually go to Vudu.com and set up an account and watch full length movies. You can even go to Walmart and buy an advanced digital copy of Spiderman and watch it on Vudu before the release date, then they will mail you a hard copy just before the release date! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek DVD in the mail just in time for the weekend to enjoy with the boys so we decided to have a little Spiderman Family Movie Night.
I took advantage of Jack being in school to make the trek to Walmart to pick up my party supplies-its always easier to shop with two kids instead of three…especially because I really wanted to try the Spiderman Augmented Reality App I had downloaded and I knew the boys would be fighting over it! This app is insanely cool-we’re huge iPad fans so I downloaded it before we left home from the iTunes store (you can get it on Google Play too!) I was able to take a picture of my four year old and so he could “be” Spiderman in a cool Spiderman comic within the app. He was so excited to see his face on Spiderman’s body!
When we got to Walmart we were on the hunt for the specially marked posters to scan into the app to release new comic book pages-it was like a scavenger hunt which Nash enjoyed so much (it was actually one of our more pleasant shopping trips-he’s not a huge fan of grocery shopping!!) Our first stop was the toy department to get a little paraphernalia…Nash picked out a pack of Spiderman and Lizard figurines to play with during the movie.
We needed some snackage for our little party so we picked up some juice, Spiderman fruit snacks, and other spider themed treats as well as a super yummy ginormous Marketside Pizza with you-know-who on the box. While we pondered which pizza to get-Lizard or Spiderman, we noticed one of the special Spiderman posters just above the pizzas in the deli section. Nash and I scanned it and it was so cool to see a new page of the comic book on the app appear right then! Score one for a quiet end to the shopping trip while Nash watched himself battle evil over the Manhattan skyline! (You can see our entire shopping trip in my Google+ album.) As an added bonus the comic book pages in the app are print-quality and can easily be shared via social media or email. I printed a page of Nash’s comic book out and framed it for his room!
Once we got home with our goodies we were able to use the app to scan the pizza box and DVD to make virtual Spiderman and Lizard “fight” which again-was a huge hit over here!
I used their occupied time to make some Spidey-themed treats. I melted up some chocolate in the microwave and made pretzel and strawberries spiderwebs and popped them in fridge to harden up in time for our fiesta later that night.
