Ingredients
3 cups SELF RISING flour (***this is important-if you don’t have this see note below***)
3 tablespoons sugar
1 12oz. (room temp) bottle of beer (You can change the recipe dramatically by changing beers-my loaf today has Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale, yum! It tastes just as good with your run-of-the mill regular beer too though!)
Directions
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2) Grease a 9-by-5-by-3 standard loaf pan
3) Whisk dry ingredients together
4) Pour in beer. With a big wooden spoon, quickly mix ingredients together until everything is incorporated. Don’t over mix, you need to get it in the oven before the carbonation fades.
5) Drop into the pan and level it out.
6) Bake for 50 minutes. This is very forgiving. If it doesn’t look done bake another 5 (max 10) minutes. Every time I have made it, it has been perfect at 50 minutes.
7) Remove from pan and enjoy. It cuts better when it cools but ohmygoodness is it tasty with butter when HOT !
8) Accept Congratulations from all and let them all think you are a wonderful baker, which of course, you are!
***If you don’t have Self Rising Flour make your own! For every one cup of flour add 1 1/4 tsp of baking soda and 1/4 tsp of salt so for this recipe use-3 cups of all purpose flour, 3 3/4 tsp baking soda, and 3/4 tsp of salt***

I so have to do this! Too bad none of the beer we had in the house survived the weekend. I think there’s an old bottle of rum around here somewhere though… probably not the same, right?
Love that you explained how to make self-rising flour. I didn’t know that!

Did you read my mind? I have a pack of this pumpkin beer at home and I was just thinking over the weekend that it might be really good in bread. Thanks for the recipe!

I love beer bread! I use pretty much this same recipe, but pour some melted butter on top before cooking – not exactly healthy, but so good. I also like to add mix-ins – grated cheese or some fresh herbs – then it’s like I made something fancy, but still SO easy.

My recipe is the same as yours except that 15-20 min. into the baking you pour 1/2 a stick of melted butter (or margarine) over it all. It soaks in to create some buttery goodness!
Looks fantastic! Megan

I make this all the time but my recipe uses 1/2 cup sugar. SO good!!! I’ve never thought to reduce it but I’m thrilled to know you can use SO much less sugar to make it.

Ohhhhh, Emmmmm, Geeeeeeee! I just made this beer bread today. It came out of the oven like five minutes ago. This is THE BEST quick bread I have ever tasted. Period. I live in Louisville, GA. (loo-isss-ville). No Pumpkin Ale to be had. Anywhere. So, I got some Raspberry Wheat put out by Shock Top. You are not kidding when you say any flave will do. The subtle flavor of raspberry is soooo extraordinary! I bought 3 other favors, and I cannot wait to try them. One is a Blueberry put out by Wild Blue, A Cherry Wheat by Samuel Adams, and a Belgian White from Blue moon. I think I saw a peach ale too. Just wish I coulda gotten the pumpkin ale. But that raspberry. Oh, my,my,my!
Thank you SO much Donna, you have no idea how much you just brightened my day with such a lovely comment! Really-I’m just over the moon happy! The Raspberry Wheat sounds like it would be great! I’ll have to go to one of those shops where you can mix and match beers to get a variety to try! Thanks again for the sweet comment!!
