Over the weekend I asked you all on Facebook what you thought I should do with my dining room. You all had some wonderful ideas and I think I’m ready to wipe this badly needed room makeover off my to-do list! (Miss the convo on Facebook? Hop over to join us!)
The problems with the dining room are plentiful (other than the fact that I never actually decorated it once we moved in!)
- The rug is too traditional for my taste
- The table is lost in all the dark colors
- No window treatments
- Nothing on the walls
- Blah-blah beige walls
So here is the plan:
I am going to add decorative picture frame molding to the area under the chair rail and paint it white.
The area over the chair rail and the tray ceiling will be painted a color to be determined-I’m thinking a darker blue-gray like Beth’s dining room over at Unskinny Boppy.
I’ll add curtains to the large window and definitely get some art up on those bare walls!
I need to find a more modern rug in lighter colors.
The big kicker will be painting the dining room table and chairs. I think I’m going to keep the wood top and paint the legs the same Alaskan Husky color I used in my bedroom makeover and nightstand makeover.
Whew, I’m exhausted just reading that list but very excited to get started. I think I’m going to take it on next week and I will keep you updated! As for the rest of this week I have some great upcycled/repurposed projects to show you so stop back by tomorrow!
Thanks for stopping by!

i went back and looked at your alaskan husky paint color. oh yes that’s definitely a great color for that. i sure would hate to paint a ceiling though, gosh. i love those two little windows! what do you plan to do with those? adorable.
We did the picture frame molding thing in our front hall (still yet to be revealed!) and it was just the best thing ever. So much impact for not very much effort. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

What you are wanting to achieve sounds kinda similar to my dining room!
http://unskinnyboppy.com/2011/07/new-blue-dining-room-paint/ I absolutely LOVE my smoky blue dining room with crisp white trim. It is a great combo. Go for it!

Sounds like you have some great plans here Mellissa!! I like the idea of painting the table legs…and your chairs would look great painted too! Once you put some accessories on your buffet table curtains hung and some artwork up – your dining room will really look so beautiful! I once bought a very inexpensive grey drumshade pendant light from TJ Maxx…which would look awesome hung here too….There are so many diy tutes out there that you could have a lot of fun making your own art….and your rug reminded me of an article I just read in a design mag about this etsy company that overdyes oriental/persian/asian rugs and makes them look amazing….. here is the link to a store i found on etsy that does this….http://www.etsy.com/listing/104003625/custom-order-for-christie-sims-listing-2?ref=v1_other_1

Not sure if you could do this with rit dye on your own rug….or maybe its an heirloom or your hubs has brought it home from his travels…anyway isn’t it a cool idea? I know whatever you do with this space it will be beautiful
