Now that Tommy is starting to toddle around a bit the nursery was overdue for a little update. If you were reading way back in May when I posted his Monterssori-inspired nursery you’ll remember I kept things down at his level. Well that quickly translated to “baby wrecking the room” as he began to get around a little better! Here is what his nursery looked like when we first moved four months ago:
The plant and picture frames were the first things banished as he started cruising. Plus, having everything at his level kind of left the room lacking any interest on the upper half (other than the adorable canopy of course!) I set out to give the nursery a frugal update and decorate the walls a bit. I knew I’d be moving the framed Eric Carles book pages up onto the wall but I needed more than just that. Off to the thrift and dollar stores I went. Ten dollars later I came home with this: two dollar store baskets, three dollar store frames, and a thrifted bucket.
Enter Krylon Dual Spray Paint. The folks at Krylon contacted me a while back and asked me if I wanted to try out and review their Dual paints. Being the spray paint addict I am I jumped all over the chance! The Dual paints are paint and primer in one which I love because 1) it reduced me having to have a separate primer on hand and 2) it cuts out a step which is a bonus if you try to sneak in crafting time when your kids are occupied like I do! I chose to try it in Gloss Black, White, and Ivy Leaf to complement the nursery colors.
Okay-on to the good stuff. Because the Krylon Dual is supposed to work on a variety of different surfaces I really wanted to test it out. My thrifted bucket was metal, the picture frames were veneer, and the baskets were straw. I also threw in some chipboard scrapbooking and wooden letters for good measure. The paint covered everything wonderfully-even, easy spraying and fast drying was a bonus. I even let my five year old spray the baskets and there were no issues. Here are my transformed pieces and how I used them to update the nursery:
I used painted chipboard letters hot glued to the containers to label them. While I had the chipboard out I remembered this canvas I pinned on Pinterest and made a little one for Tommy by hot gluing the chipboard letters to a small Walmart canvas then spray painting the entire surface.
The Dollar store frames looks super cute hanging on Tommy’s wall, I filled them with free printables from Beautifully Rooted, Mr. Printables, and vixenMade. By the way, I have tons of free printables on my Printable Pinterest Board if you are even looking for some!)
So here is the new improved nursery, I’m thinking of putting in a floating shelf above the expedit for his radio to sit out of reach as well.
Do you like his initial and little banner? I spray-painted a wooden letter from Hobby Lobby and below that hung dollar store flashcards from baker’s twine with mini clothespins.
And of course now the great news: Krylon is giving one of my readers a six pack of Krylon Dual Spray Paint in their choice of color (US only-sorry!) Just enter via the Rafflecopter widget below. The winner will be announced next Friday! (Oh, and you should really go check out My Project Vault, a website created by Krylon to share your projects-so much inspiration over there!)

Hey,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a sweet comment on my DIY Designer Vase that I used Krylon spray on and mentioning that you had a give a way for some. Thought I’d pop over here to enter. What would I use it on if I won—I have some metal planters that I’d like to redo among many other projects.

I would use the Krylon Dual paint to freshen some serving trays
Love spray paint!
I’m so excited at the chance to win some KRYLON spray paint!! My youngest daughter has just moved back home after finishing 5 yrs. of college, and we are updating her bedroom. So we have “MANY” projects we could use with the KRYLON. She is currently painting 2 dressers for her room but we have alot more we would like to do. It’s been fun!!
OOPS…I forgot to mention that we would use the KRYLON to paint some picture frames we got at a vintage store and a few other items to create a gallery wall.
I am working on a Nursery, too. It will be more of a shared space and this time I am having a boy. I need to makeover some items.

i just got back from the lowes and i bought 6 cans of the krylon paints so you see i DO use a lot of krylon and need more so i could sure use these if i win. thanks for the chance.
I always keep a least five different cans of spray paint on hand. I am in love with changing the colors of things. My home is extremely coloerrful. i pretty much paint everything. Sometimes with great success and not so much but I don’t quit..if I don’t like the color. I just prime and start over. My next project after seeing blogger who painted a ugly lamp white I am truly inspired. I have a pair of green lamps that I received as a gift that I have conviently lost the lampshade so I don’t have to use. I can really use the six cans of dual kraylon paints as am going to paint from hunters green to white. It will really help since it has a primer also. Wish me luck.
I would use to to spray paint some picture frames, misc knick knacks and decor just to tie them all together.
I love Krylon spray paint. I need to update a toy box for my daughter’s room, work on a corkboard re-do and also re-do our train table. I could probably think of about 10 more projects as well. I love spray paint!
