Okay, bear with me-first official WordPress post, I’m figuring things out as I go!
My husband had two of these nightstands from before we were married and we had been using them until I recently started our Master bedroom redesign. They are great for storage and I want to use them in my master closet as a sort of dresser but thought they needed a little pick me up.
I first cleaned and sanded the nightstands then primed them with spray primer. At this point I got nervous. I’d never painted real wood furniture before.
I spray painted the top with Rustoleum Universal in Gloss Black. Then on the body I used some leftover Benjamin Moore flat paint in Alaskan Husky from painting the Master Bedroom. I gave it a good three coats and let me tell you-it was no joke getting into all the nooks and crannies of the carvings! While the paint was drying I sprayed all of the hardware with Rustoleum Universal in Oil Rubbed Bronze.
When the paint had fully dried I gave it three thorough coats of Minwax spray polyurethane to protect it. I love the look of the finished piece, its a total change from the Before!

I l.o.v.e. this look! I’m with you, normally a piece like that would not be painted here, my hubs is a purist in these things, but this looks sooooo much better. Maybe it’s just the photograph, but I see the details much more clearly painted than I did when stained. Janet
sweet! I adore black & white!!!

Hour dresser looks fabulous! The detail really pops with the white paint.
That is so pretty.. the details stand out so much nicer with the white paint, and I never would have thought to paint the top black, but it looks soooo good!
What a transformation! Looks beautiful!

I agree with some other comments stating more visability of the carvings now that it is white. My husband is also a purist when it comes to “real wood” furniture. What did your husband think of the finished project?
Great work. I think your nightstands now have far more character – especially since you painted the top and hardware black! Found you on Tip Junkie’s Tip Me Tuesdays! Luv it.
