I have seen tons of posts on Pinterest and across the blogosphere where people have printed photos out on engineer’s blueprints and I really wanted to give it a try. I converted one of my favorite pictures of my older two boys to black and white and sent it off to Staples to be printed. I chose the 36″ by 48″ print which cost me under $7. It was ready the next day and I eagerly took it home and unrolled it to see how it turned out:
(Excuse the writing across the picture, I don’t normally posts pictures of my children’s faces on the blog.)
I was so excited when I unrolled it, I couldn’t wait to get it up on the wall! I chose to mount my picture on lightweight foam board so it would be easier to hang. It also just happen to come in the perfect dimensions!
Cheri over at I am Momma, Hear me Roar recommended Elmer’s adhesive when she mounted a blueprint to wood, so that is what I chose to use to mount my print to the foam board. I laid the picture down and sprayed the adhesive on the foam board. I then carefully smoothed my blueprint on top of the foamboard starting in the middle and working my way out to avoid bubbles.
Once the print was smooth I flipped the foam over and began folding the edges around to the back and securing with the adhesive. (Be careful-the ink will rub off on your fingers and smear!)
Easy-peasy! I chose not to frame my picture although I have seen others mount theirs on mdf and cover with Modge Podge.
I took a picture on my dining room server so you could see just how big the picture is…I’m loving it. I actually made more than one of these and I can tell you that the darker the overall picture, the more apparent the print isn’t high quality…so I would suggest using a lighter picture.

Love how this turned out. I’ve been wanting to do a large picture of my kiddos when they were younger. Maybe one day, I’ll get around to it. Yours turned out fabulous!

visiting from house of hepworths…I’ve been thinking about getting these prints from staples, thanks for the info about the type of picture I should use. Yours turned out great!
I’ve been wanting to try this since I saw it on I Am Momma Hear Me Roar, too. What resolution was your picture? I’ve been storing away pics I wanted to use for this, but wasn’t sure if the quality would be good enough. Yours looks great!
