Ikea Table to Pirate Desk

Like I mentioned yesterday, I had an old IKEA children’s table and chair that I wanted to convert to a desk for Nash’s room.  Since we had decided on a pirate theme for his room I knew I needed to give the set a little makeover!

I had an old vanity that I dismantled a few months ago and I had saved this piece from the front.  (I used the drawers to make the boy’s nightstands recently) I came across it in the garage and it was a perfect fit for the front of Nash’s table.  The boat was just the thing to make the table work with the pirate theme!

I screwed the table into the front of the desk and spray painted it and the chair gloss black.  I gave it a few coats to help it hold up to the wrath of an active four year old!

Here is a close up of the boat detail-its hard to photograph black well without washing out the details!

What do you think? I L-O-V-E the way it turned out and it fits my “vision” for his room perfectly.  It complements perfectly his Pirate Sail Headboard we recently made! I have a few more projects for his room we’re slowly knocking out but in the interest of “fairness” (a big concept for the boys right now) we have to alternate projects for each of their rooms!

What kind of paint did you use? Just a glossy paint? I have a “naked” IKEA table that needs a make over and I’m thinking something in pink-ish for Baby Girl’s room. Thanks!

  1. [...] Once it was dry I used a staple gun to attach some boat line to the back of the sign then hung my cleat on the wall and looped the rope around! Nash loves it (he picked out what it should say) and its the perfect compliment to his Pirate Sail Headboard and Pirate Desk! [...]
