Review of Shoot, Fly, Shoot Photography Class

I posted last week that I finally took the plunge and signed up for Shoot, Fly, Shoot’s Photography 101 online course.  I have to let you all know that it was probably one of the best purchases I have ever made.

The class is 11 videos comprising about three hours of lessons.  It also comes with a 20 page pdf reference guide.  I finished the class in about three days and immediately I noticed an improvement in my photography.

I actually ended up ordering a new 50mm lens so that I can get the effect that I want from portraits and close up still shots…I had been desperate for the bokah effect in my photos and yearning for a short depth of field but didn’t realize that the 18-55mm lens that came with my Canon Rebel kit wasn’t capable of that.  It was such a relief to learn that it wasn’t me, it was my equipment.

Back to the class-I truly think this class is worth it and highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their photography. I think you all will notice an vast improvement in my blog photography as well.  I’m definitely going to be taking their Photography 102 course when it becomes available.

I’m looking forward to sharing the pictures from my vacation with you when I get back-I’m sure they’ll be wonderful thanks to my new-found knowledge!

Just as a quick example, here is a shot of the living room I took a few weeks ago with my camera in “auto” mode:

And hereis one of my practice shots that I shot in manual while learning in the Shoot, Fly, Shoot course.  The difference is subtle but the lighting is SO much better as well as the shot set up.

This photo was taken when I was about halfway through the course so it gets better-I’ll be posting lots more “after” photos when I am back from my vacation.

Edit to add (7/22/2012):  I recently signed up as an affiliate for Shoot, Fly, Shoot. I did this because taking the class was seriously one of the best decisions I have made both as the primary photographer for my family and as a blogger. I am so grateful to have taken the class an encourage anyone wanting to be a better to take their classes as well whether they use my affiliate link or not.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, you really can see a difference. I might look into it myself. Can’t wait to see more!

  4. I recently also just got a 50mm and I am in L O V E with it.

  5. Colleen says:

Also love the furry friend in the 2nd photo! Cat, Dog?

Really, there is a difference. The first shot is fine, but looks just like any picture. The 2nd shot is more….. “artsy”?

But seriously, I have been thinking about taking the 101 class as well, and it is encouraging to see positive reviews. Thanks for doing this review on Shootflyshoot.
