A quicky post today to share probably one of the cheapest projects I’ve ever made. Those of you who follow me on Facebook probably saw that I actually pulled out the sewing machine yesterday and the two of us weren’t getting along very well (as usual!) I’m happy to report that despite our differences we were able to come together and finish a few projects. A couple were gifts so I can’t share them just yet but I was able to make a fast and cheap patriotic pillow to give the living room a little holiday update before the Fourth of July.
We recently had a Hobby Lobby open up nearby and I found a super cute star patterned bandana priced at $2 and on sale for 40% off. I picked it up knowing I could use it for something. Then while sewing yesterday I realized the bandana was the perfect size to become a pillow cover for my large couch pillows.
I scavenged some leftover dropcloth from the laundry room makeover and pirate sail headboard for the back. (Are you totally tired of dropcloth projects yet? I promised all the material is almost gone-its gone a LONG way for $10!) I sewed a simple envelope closure on the back and literally for less than $2 and 15 minutes I had a new pillow cover! I pulled the red pillows from the mud room in to complete the red, white, and blue look. Easy-peasy! I love that my $2 pillow looks right at home with my Kravet Riad trellis pillow from my favorite Etsy Shop!
A couple questions for you:
-does your husband act like you’re crazy for changing decor so much? Mine does. He totally doesn’t understand the whole “seasonal decorating” thing. Crazy man.
-For all of you who have better relationships with your sewing machines than I obviously do can you please, please, please tell me why in the world I broke three needles yesterday in an hour? I’m at my wits end with this machine…and you wonder why I hot glue everything!!

Perfect pillow! I am not sure why your needles are breaking… mine break when I am trying to sew through 6 layers of heavy fabric! I love hob lob… I have the only one in cali in my backyard!
