In my quest to keep the older boys busy so I can care for the baby I have been pulling out all the stops. Monday the weather was very nice so we went for a walk (not a great idea-I overdid it a little) but the big activity for the day was dinosaur ice excavation!
The previous night I took all the boys’ cheap tiny plastic dinosaurs and divided them between two plastic bowls. Then I filled the bowls with water and froze them overnight. When the boys got a little rowdy I produced the ice blocks then sat back to enjoy a good hour of peace!
I had originally given the boys some little spreader knives to chip away at the ice but it didn’t work very well and they were getting frustrated. (Anything sharper would have not ended well-I know my boys!) I prompted them to try different things to excavate the ice. They tried lava rocks from our flower beds but that didn’t help much either, finally they picked the ice up and dropped it on the patio and that worked great! They busted the ice apart until they retrieved all the dinos then immediately asked to do it again! So now my nightly routine consists of freezing dinos for the next day!
