Since I’m on a bit of self-imposed rest trying to keep this baby “in” until my hubby gets home on leave I thought I’d show you my latest painting.
My husband found a painting he really loved online from a gallery in Charleston, SC (where we met and have family close by). The painting was $500 and even if we had wanted to spend that it sold very quickly and the artist hasn’t done anything remotely similar recently. So for his birthday (coming up next month) he told me all he wanted was for me to try to do a similar painting to the one he originally liked.
I can’t say that I was particularly thrilled when he told me that was the only thing he wanted, it would have been far easier to go buy him a gift and I don’t really work the best under pressure, but in the end I am very pleased with the way the painting turned out. I did two practice paintings before this one to try and learn the technique the artist used to achieve the final look and I will probably be listing them in my Etsy shop sometime soon once they are completely dry (my paintings take two to four weeks to dry usually depending on the thickness of the paint).
I can’t wait to give it to him when he’s home, I really hope I captured what he was looking for-a dark stormy sea at night! Thanks for looking!
